Warning: Shots fired and landing!

Well, we have round one in the books in the battle old school vs. new school. The only bad part about this old situation is people basing their opinion and pledging loyalty based on record sales. The focus on record sales has gotten Hip Hop to the point where this battle is even to take place. Drake is a guy that is a bit extra emotional for most men on the street but loved by a lot of ladies for that some reason. Common is a guy that has been tagged as conscious and soft by some, but respected by the Hip Hop community as a emcee. I think the main difference is the perception of manhood. They say this may be over Serena and if so, I think it may be hard to let that go too! However, Common had no known issues w/ Andre 3000 or M1 of Dead Prez about Erykah Badu so, could it really be the "Marvin's Room" antics of Drake? I don't know and don't claim to but, I am glad that there is some type of rebellion against the establishment and the norm. It just happened to be that Drake was in the line of fire. I'd like to hear more Raekwon, Jadakiss, or just people with more hunger, fire, and drive on my radio. Everybody is extra cool nowadays and the others fall in line.

As far as this song goes, Drake came out swinging hard! His verse is definitely nice. The only problem is he got that Nas syndrome. Nas didn't stay on Jay-Z the whole song and by the end of it I was thinking that it was a different song. Drake should have took a page from the Nicki Minaj book and drove due back to 87th. once you say "Diss me and you'll never hear a reply for it" and you go against that, you HAVE to go full throttle which I think he will if there's another round. Common went all the way in. Again, this is a cat that took on Ice Cube first and then the Westside Connection so, his track record appears to be as the underground queen of Chicago says "My motto be, why go if you ain't gonna go full throttle". That is how you win a battle. I'm not saying Com won, but that is definitely the recipe. Tell me who you think won round 1.
